Hi and welcome to my blog on the new Nokia N8 mobile smartphone. I've decided to write this review for those of you out there that are looking to get a new smartphone, but like I was, can't decide which phone to go for. I actually spent weeks looking at various phones - The HTC Desire, I-Phone 4, Nokia N8 then the HTC Desire HD and although I couldn't wait any longer - i did have a bit of a read up on Windows Mobile 7. Now I expect you've already read some reviews, perhaps watched some you tube videos (these really helped me) and have read all sorts of comments from users slagging off the various phones, many infact actually slagging off the Nokia N8! But i had a good play with the HTC Desire, had several friends and colleagues show off the rather good i-phone 4 and my wife now (regrettably) has the HTC Wildfire and I finally concluded the Nokia N8 would be the phone for me - and for the next 2 years too! (Which was one of the reasons I spent a long time choosing the right phone as most operators give the best deals on 24 month contracts now) I've got mine with Three, I've been with Three now for several years, have always had a signal and plenty of 3G! I have no problems with Three at all, I got the phone for free and pay £28 per month. For this I get 900 mix & match minutes or texts, 1Gb internet and 3000 minutes 3 to 3 calls. Plenty for me. So... why the Nokia N8 then... (These comments are from what helped me choose the phone - not necessarily my thoughts after owning the phone)Firstly - The camera! It really looked very good! 12MP and 720HD video - Nice! Now i know most of the other phones also have 720p HD video now, but I felt the i-phone was way behind with it's 5MP images (I had an N95 8GB years ago with a 5mp camera!), the Desire and wildfire have a poor camera and really appawling video quality. The desire HD is better, but none of them matched the N8 at all!
Other considerations for me, and perhaps just me! Was the ability to have my laptop just bluetooth to my phone and get online, no need for buttons or options to be pressed etc. Now the Desire has the "MiFi" option of allowing laptops to connect to the phone via wifi to access 3g internet (similar to joikuspot on Nokia's) but the I-Phone needs "tethering" I'm told, no easy option to do this and you may even have to pay a monthly fee for the facility!
